How the smart manager builds his career- Shine like diamond philosophy

The smart manager knows that his competition is not with his peer managers. He does not mingle with his fellow managers and remains isolated yet powerful. Once he has killed the competition among the team members he shines like diamond. And thereafter he becomes invincible in the career strategy and sky is the only limit.

1. Never disclose your team members the criteria for promotion. Let them keep guessing till the year end. This is very vital to keep your team members confused as well as insecure entire year.

2. During the appraisal time, invent new performance parameters and rate them badly on that score. Tell them with specific dates and times and how terrible it has been for the company's image. Keep your team members frustrated and disgruntled to your advantage.

3. If your team member asks you any serious questions about their career path, promotion, skills development etc. then follow two step approach:

A. Stare at the wall below his head and not his eyes. Let him complete and his enthusiasm would calm down. After a minute of pin drop silence, he would become insecure. Give a blank look and say office is noisy and we will discuss tomorrow at evening at 7 PM.

B. Next day at 7 PM keep lot of work ready for him and make him work till 10 in night. Henceforth he would not dare to come to you other than work reviews.

4. Meet your team members only for review purposes. If any team member calls over phone and asks difficult questions about their career path and promotions etc, then pause for a minute and ask him to meet at 7 in the evening tomorrow.

Repeat step no. B as above.

5. Give poor ratings to everyone else, make them feel they are dumb, they do not deserve to work in organisation and you are giving him favour by still retaining them. Kill the competition in your team and shine brightly like diamond.

6. During the review, memorise the good work done by the juniors but do not acknowledge it. Instead highlight the trivial errors, spelling mistakes, formatting errors for long hours. Make them feel totally disappointed. Take the same file to your boss, tell him the good works done and take the credit for all positives. Dump all the negatives to the junior's account and destroy his image.Make your boss believe that with such dumb people only smart manager like you can manage to complete jobs.

7. During your review, tell your boss you have the worst resources in the organisation, still you have managed a decent job with great difficulty. You would be promoted as fast track.

8. Maintain a “Mistake diary” for your juniors for even smaller mistakes (e.g., coming late to office, taking leave at crucial time, reaching home by 7 PM etc.). Daily revise this list at breakfast table for each team members. These are the weapons to be used at multiple inappropriate times.
9. Do one special favour to each team member 'out of the company's rules' and remember to do one favour only. Cite this favour at all the times. Demoralise people by pointing out these favours and mistakes at crucial team meetings, trainings and break their confidence. They would never dare to speak to you with confidence.

10. Always promote your own dumb people who would obey you blindly. Always surround yourself with those people during lunch, snacks, parties etc . Do not mingle with or promote people who are threat to your knowledge or position.
